The volume dial is how loud a piece prints. It has three stops: Max, the default, with every animation and effect on; Studio, the calmer step; and Quiet, the reduced-motion mode where the art holds still. It moves only the expressive layer: the colour area, the ink count, texture, display type, tilt, motion and 3D. The reading layer (every word, control and number) is identical at all three. So a contractor never has to guess how loud something should be: they look up its channel below, print it at that volume, and may let one section step one louder.
Rules#
| Id | Rule | Why | Checked by |
|---|---|---|---|
| BB-VOLUME-01Must | Pick the volume from CHANNEL_VOLUMES; a section may go one step louder, never two.Applies to: Every channel | The channel table is the brand's loudness map. One step of contrast between sections reads as rhythm; two reads as a different site. | Press checkthe template pins; the generators read the same table |
| BB-VOLUME-02Must | Print prices, legal lines, forms and document body pages at Quiet.Applies to: Site, MAX//OS, Documents, Slides | Where the reader decides or signs, nothing should compete with the words. | Testthe documents' DOM check |
| BB-VOLUME-03Must | Start the site and the docs at Max, every animation and effect on, and let the dial turn it down: Studio for calmer work, Quiet for reduced motion.Applies to: Site, Docs, Social, Slides | The full show from the start, with the means to turn it down (D-P76). A visitor whose system asks for reduced motion starts at Quiet, and the reading layer is the same at every stop. | Manual review |
| BB-VOLUME-04Must | Keep the reading layer identical at every volume; only the expressive layer moves.Applies to: Site, Docs, MAX//OS, Print, Documents, Social, Slides | Text, controls and data read the same at Quiet and at Max (D-B2), so turning the dial never costs legibility. | Press checkA10, the reading layer by computed style |

How to pick#
- Find the channel in the table above and print at its default.
- A section may go one step louder than its page when it is a hero moment, a cover or a campaign, never two steps (BB-VOLUME-01).
- Prices, legal lines, forms and document body pages stay at Quiet, whatever the page around them (BB-VOLUME-02).
- The site and the docs start at Max; the dial turns them down, and a visitor who asks for reduced motion starts at Quiet (BB-VOLUME-03).
The visitor dial#
On the site and the docs, a visitor can turn the whole site down or back up with the dial in the header and the footer: Max, Studio or Quiet. The dial changes the art and the motion at once; the words stay where they are. A visitor whose system asks for reduced motion starts at Quiet and can still choose a louder stop; reduced motion still wins for anything that moves, and Max's loops keep their pause key in view.
